You are encouraged to consider the use of resources that are available through our subscribed film and video platforms.
Some films and other audio-visual resources that are available from these subscriptions are accessible via our library search as normal, but please be aware that you may have to search directly within these video platforms to see the full scope of content they offer.
Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video platform, including films, documentaries, classic cinema and foreign films. You are not required to create an account on the Kanopy website - clicking "skip" at this stage will allow access to content.
Box of Broadcasts (BoB) is an off-air recording and media archive service. It allows you to record TV and radio programmes scheduled to be broadcast over the next seven days as well as retrieving programmes from the last seven days from a selected list of recorded channels. In addition, you can watch programmes from the archive (back to around 2007 for 9 key channels), create clips, and compile your favourite shows into playlists. BoB is produced by the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC), Cambridge Imaging Systems and Bournemouth University.
Digital Theatre Plus is the home of unique films of leading British theatre productions for schools, colleges and universities and a bold new approach to experiencing and learning about theatre online.
Drama Online is an online resource for plays, critical analysis and performance. It is a digital library of the most studied, performed and critically acclaimed plays from the last two and a half thousand years. Drama online offers expert guidance in the form of scholarly notes, annotated texts, critical analysis and contextual information. A regularly-expanding portfolio of performance and practitioner texts from theory to backstage and acting guides coupled with images, video and audio material make this an essential study & teaching tool.
Screenonline is a website devoted to the history of British film and television, and to Britain's social history as revealed by film and television. The site features hundreds of hours of video clips from the vast collections of the bfi National Film and Television Archive, alongside thousands of stills, posters and press books and several hours of recorded interviews with film and television personalities. This material is supplemented by rich and authoritative contextual material by expert writers, specially commissioned for screenonline.
If students require access to films that are not available on these platforms and there is no suitable alternative, we accept requests to make essential films/documentaries available via our own platform, Panopto. To do this, you need to complete our film streaming request form.

In all cases, we will contact module supervisors where we are not able to provide access to a film and any questions regarding access to films for teaching purposes should be directed to libline@essex.ac.uk.
