Library Catalogue for VSC Students

Search the Library catalogue for online academic sources available to VSC students - books, chapters in books, and peer-reviewed journal articles:

In addition, you can see the list of Library databases available to VSC students

Online Search

VSC students have access to a large subset of subscribed & purchased Library e-resources. Search results from those resources will be the default display when using Library Search.

VSC students also have access to all Open Access results (select Open Access from the Availability filter).

Accessing e-resources at Essex:

Library e-resources are accessed using the login and password assigned to you by the IT section when you enrol. Single Sign On means you only need login once and you will be able to access all e-resources available to VSC students:

Padlock icon for multifactor authentication
With the move to multi-factor authentication, accessing e-resources requires an extra step. This additional authentication is to make sure your account remains secure. You will need to setup multi-factor authentication to access e-resources.

You can learn more about:
Setting up multi-factor authentication
Accessing e-resources using multi-factor authentication
If you still run into any issues around multi-factor authentication, you can contact the IT Helpdesk.

Items not in the Library: "Expand my results"

To view the full range of search results (not just content immediately available to VSC students), use the Expand My Results option (top of left panel):

Check Google/Google Scholar to see if a source found using "expand my results" is available open access. If not, you can use Request a Resource to obtain items to which VSC students don't have access (including those not in Library search at all). The Library can only supply VSC students with material available digitally.

Additional Resources

Here are some additional links for VSC students to useful resources:

Useful guides might include Health & Social Care (Speech Therapy); Theatre Studies & E15; Linguistics

The table below summarises the list of library databases to which VSC students currently have access, and containing sources relating to voice.
Note that on most platforms Essex does not subscribe to all content, but all content that Essex does have will appear in your default results when using library search.
