Research & publications from reputable think tanks, NGOs, and policy organisations, can be an important complement to the academic literature (books and journal articles), especially for research topics that have policy dimensions.
The policy literature is generally not included in academic search engines such as the library catalogue, Scopus or Google Scholar. However you can use databases that cross-search the output of these organisations to help save you time. The main ones to try are Overton Policy Documents and/or Policy Commons
See also individual organisations & think tanks listed under the More Resources sections of the Politics subject guide
For some major general sources of open access e-books and e-journals please see the Library's Open Access Content page. Other open access resources are distributed across this guide depending upon their geographical or topical focus
Grey literature is information not produced by commercial publishers. It includes research reports, working papers, conference proceedings, theses, preprints, white papers, and reports produced by government departments, academics, business and industry. It can be hard to track down, but the resources listed below are good starting points. See also Policy Commons or Overton (mentioned above) which link to millions of policy documents from think tanks/NGOs.
