Book a one to one session with a librarian for expert advice and help.

Please note: our book a librarian service is currently in high demand. Please look at the resources below before requesting an appointment as they may answer any questions you have.

We offer a wide range of support:

  • Our Subjects Guides can direct you to databases and resources relevant for your assignments & studies
  • Our Skills Guides offer guidance and interactive tutorials to help you develop your study & research skills
  • Our Referencing guides show which referencing style to use for your department and how to reference correctly
  • We regularly run workshops on a variety of information skills topics, including referencing, literature searching, evaluating sources, and more
  • You can submit a question and we will get back to you via email
  • If you have general enquiries or you would like to report problems with accessing resources, please get in touch with us through our enquiry form or our Chat Services.

'Book a librarian' service

You can book an appointment with an experienced member of library staff if you would like support with: 

  • Finding information on a topic
  • Finding data on a topic
  • Using a particular database/online resource
  • How to cite/reference

Each appointment is 30 minutes. You can book as a study/friend group, for example if you have the similar issues or questions, or it can be one-to-one. 

Our appointments are offered:

  • online via Zoom,
  • in-person at the Albert Sloman Library on Colchester Campus,
  • or in-person in the Learning Hub at our Southend Campus.

Face-to-face appointments require a week's notice. Please be prepared to wear a face-covering for in-person appointments.

What we cannot do
