Our current opening hours are:
These can be subject to change so please make sure you check using the link below before you travel. Please remember your registration card so that you can open the library door. This applies to the entire time we are open, not just self-service hours.
As we are a small team at Loughton not all of our opening hours are staffed. You can still use the library during these times, but you must remember your registration card so that you can open the door, use the self-service kiosk, and use the laptop loans locker.
Even though staff aren't here we ask that you still follow the rules of the space (no food, only drinks with lids, quiet study only) and quick-check in when you arrive.
Want to make sure you are visiting when staff are here? Use the opening times link below to see when we are self service only and when the helpdesk is staffed.
As our services gradually begin to return to normal for the coming academic year, we ask that all users of our library continue to adopt Covid safe behaviour. We strongly encourage you to continue to wear a face covering and socially distance, keeping good hand hygiene by using our antibacterial wipes and dispensers around the building. We will also ask you to complete our quick check in form on arrival for track and trace purposes.
You can access the quick check in form on arrival by using the QR code. If you are unable to use the codes staff are happy to check you in at the helpdesk.
Under current covid-19 restrictions, University of Essex students and staff members are able to visit Loughton Library and IT Centre to and use quick check-in to borrow resources, print, borrow a laptop, visit the helpdesk, or use a study space. You can find out more about the services available on our Covid-19 update page.
We are now also able to welcome East 15 alumni, however we are not open for SCONUL access at this time. If you are an alumni please ensure you visit during staffed hours, as you are unable to open the door without a registration card. You can check our self-service hours online.
If you have not been to Loughton Campus before we recommend you take a look at the East 15 website, which includes a 360 degree virtual tour of campus, so you know how to find the library when you arrive.
Loughton campus is home to East 15 Drama School. Under current Covid-19 restrictions we are still providing face-to-face teaching, and so you will encounter students and staff on site during your visit.
To help keep our campus covid-secure we ask that all external library visitors do the following:
