Choose your own books

Need access to physical resources?

We understand that it isn't always possible to gain access to the plays or resources you need online, so from March 8 2021, students and staff will be able to book 30 minutes to browse the library shelves and borrow plays, books, and DVDs from our physical collection at Loughton.

You can book up to 1 slot per day and a maximum of 2 slots per week. Bookings must be made in advance in order for library staff to maintain a Covid-secure environment. All visitors to the library must wear a face covering, maintain 2 meter distancing and use hand santising stations. Full terms and conditions can be found on the booking form at: https://libcal.essex.ac.uk/reserve/chooseabookloughton

Tips for using choose your own books:

  • If you want a particular item, search online before you make your booking to check that it is available at Loughton campus. You can find help with searching and using the library website on our search skills guide. It might be available online.
  • Remember to bring your library card! You'll need it to prove your identity and to borrow your items using the self-service machine. If you have lost your card or it needs replacing then you can contact student services hub to arrange getting a replacement.
  • Make sure you arrive on time for your booking. If you arrive early you may have to wait before you can enter, and if you arrive after the start of your booking you won't get your full thirty minutes.
  • Not sure what you are looking for? There is a list of each subject area at the end of each shelf and Library staff will be available to direct you to the right area.
  • Knock loudly when you arrive and have your ID and booking confirmation email ready. Our helpdesk faces away from the door and this helps us know you are there.
