Library Services and IT Services are excited to announce a new laptop loan service for students at Colchester Campus.

We have a total of 36 laptops available for loan, which you can access 24/7, 365 days a year from our new self-service laptop kiosk located in the Library Reading Room.
You can loan a laptop for up to 3 hours. All you need is your student card.

To take out a laptop:

1. Go to the laptop kiosk and choose Borrow using the touch screen.

2. Scan your student card on the card reader below.

3. Scan your student card on the flashing tower.

4. Take the laptop.

And voila, the laptop is yours for the next 3 hours to work where you want to on campus. You can access your e-mails, create Word, Powerpoint, and Excel documents, and even print. The laptops will run like Lab PCs, and you’ll be able to access your University drive from them. Returning laptops is just as easy, and you can also get receipts.

Library Frontline services will also be there for help, tips, and advice on using the laptops, borrowing, using, and returning.

We went into laptop loans with the idea of creating versatile spaces, allowing students to decide how they want use their space. Laptop loans allow you to turn any space into an IT space to use it in the way you want to.

This is just our first step in to laptop loans, and depending on how well it goes over the next year, we may look to expand. This will be within the Library, but may also move into other departments.

Most importantly, we want to hear from you. What do you like about the laptop loans? What do you think we could do better? Let us know, and we can continue to improve the service and give you the best experience we can.
